Benefits of Loft Insulation and Roof Insulation
A well-insulated house keeps warmth exactly where you need it - indoors
Is loft insulation a good way to reduce my energy bills?
Loft insulation is a simple and effective way to reduce your heating bills and will retain heat much better in your home helping you to save money on your energy bills.
We specialise in Spray foam insulation, which is the most effective method of insulating your loft or roof. Using our open cell technology, spray foam is far more advanced the traditional methods of loft insulation such as fiberglass, rockwool or superfoil.
With an R Value much more effective than other methods, Spray foam can be installed to seal the envelope and retain all the heat in your home, ensuring that you don't need to turn your heating on as much in your home.
Spray foam installed by Warmer Solutions can deliver 40% savings on your energy bills with a fully insulated loft or roofspace and put your mind at ease knowing that when you turn your heating off the temperature in your home won't drop.
Is fiberglass or rockwool insulation better than spray foam insulation?
No fiberglass or rockwool is not better than spray foam insulation. Using materials like fiberglass or rockwool you will not achieve high energy efficiency and fiberglass and rockwool will deteriorate as the lifespan is not guaranteed. With wool type insulation being used there is always an element of risk with condensation in a loft as these materials are not air tight and cold air can pass through and hot air through your heating will meet and create a dew point in the loft often leading to fiberglass holding moisture and creating black spots on your ceiling. This in fact can lead to other hazards such as mould which is bad for health of individuals that suffer from respiratory conditions.
What is the best loft insulation?
Spray foam insulation is far more advanced than traditional wool type insulations, making it one of the best types of insulation to install in your loft or roof, it will deliver up to 40% savings on your energy bills when installed correctly.
Insulating the loft or roof with spray foam is much more proactive as we prevent any opportunity for cold air to come in. You can also have the added comfort of allowing storage on the loft floor making your loft space much more useable all year round without needing to raise the joists or add extra layers of insulation. We insulate the pitch allowing for a blank canvas on the floor so you get the best of both worlds, a fully insulated loft and storage system.
We strongly advise against insulating the floor of your loft and always insulate the pitched roof in between the rafters onto a membrane ensuring the cold air is kept above roof level and all heat is retained back in your home. By doing this we can ensure no heat is lost through the roof and the warmth is kept in your home leading you to use your heating system less and reducing your heating bills.
By creating a warm loft you are creating a warm home. Homes are not designed to have a cold roof as the timber structure of your roof is always best kept dry with less moisture build up. A dry loft brings a dry home.
Imagine a kettle boiling, when you open the lid the steam rises. This is what happens in your home when your heating is turned on. A poorly insulated home tends to lose all its heat through the roof as heat rises.
Free Loft Survey
Here at Warmer Solutions we provide a free loft survey service that allows our trained professionals to assess your loft and advise you on any improvements that may be required. The survey consists of:
- Measuring the space and all elements of the roof such as timbers and size etc.
- Checking the moisture levels, checking to see if there is any moisture present on your current insulation. Also checking if the timbers are free of any moisture that can lead to further problems down the line.
- Condensation risk report, calculating the risks of any condensation and how we can assist in ensuring the ventilation is correct and allowing the roof to breathe.
- Checking the condition of the roof, is the membrane or felt suitable for our application, are any repairs necessary, are the timbers in good condition?
- Checking how adequate your current insulation is and understand where the concerns are.
By doing this we ensure a full survey is conducted and we can then discuss in detail any changes that could be made and any improvements that would be recommended.
